Rocoto

The only domesticated Capsicum with black seeds and hairy leaves (C. pubescens). Native to the Andean highlands, it's one of the oldest cultivated peppers — archaeological evidence dates it back thousands of years in Peru. Called Locoto in Bolivia, Manzano in Mexico. Can tolerate light frosts, unlike any other domesticated pepper. The thick walls make it perfect for stuffing — Rocoto Relleno is a Peruvian classic.
